Should you ever hear the tired trope that Dallas isn't a walkable city, send that person to Knox-Henderson for an eye-opening experience. The retail epicenter between Uptown and East Dallas, there is never a dull moment for those that live, work, or play (or all three) in this vibrant neighborhood.

 

The Knox-Henderson community occupies an area just north of Dallas's vaunted Oak Lawn/Turtle Creek/Uptown district. While all four areas blend seamlessly with each other into a dynamic live-work-play environment—Knox-Henderson is very much its own entity. 

 

It's where downtowners, uptowners, and East Dallasites go shopping. The homes and their environs eschew new urbanism, while sleek and modern townhomes and condos manage to retain plenty of character and charm to help set Knox-Henderson apart from the crowd.

When it comes to trendy neighborhoods, not many in Dallas move faster than Knox-Henderson. Usually mentioned in the same breath with the equally high-end Uptown community immediately to the south, residents trend toward the mid-to-late 30s and early 40s.

 

Townhome and condo living is the norm, and it is incredibly upscale with new projects always popping up. There is very much an always-on-the-go lifestyle that permeates the neighborhood, and it's a lifestyle the locals wholly embrace. 

 

Knox-Henderson offers some of Dallas' top dining options. You could eat out for a month and not hit every establishment on hand. Some of the best spots include the deliciously chic brasserie Up on Knox, the warm, authentic Italian eatery Taverna, and the classy, sit-down pizzeria Fireside Pies.

 

There's also gastropub The Porch, a local favorite with an upscale, open-concept dining room and an energetic outdoor eating space.

 

Shopping in Knox-Henderson is a retail delight. Eclectic is a good description considering the mix of mainstream (Apple, Pottery Barn, Lululemon) and not so mainstream (Froggies 5 and 10, Favor the Kind, Betty Lou's). The bonus is that the entire 12 block area is easily walkable.

 

Knox-Henderson offers direct access to the iconic Katy Trail, an urban trail that once served as a primary railroad line into Dallas. Now, the three-and-a-half-mile walking, jogging, and biking path meander its way from the northernmost point in Knox-Henderson down to the American Airlines Center in Victory Plaza.

 

The retail district also comes alive with lights each holiday season, and you can tour the area and the magnificent mansions of nearby Highland Park via carriage ride.
